The Beat Goes On
The Trump era has ended. Significant damage to the fabric of our nation has already been done. How much more there will be remains to be seen.
Trump did not do this damage by himself. He was not an anomaly. He was a symptom of the abject corruption of the Republican Party, whose efforts to unmake the republic continue.
Let's not forget those in the public sector who, against all reason and in violation of their own oaths of office, have participated in Trump's rampage.
Mitch McConnell
Senate Minority Leader & Republican Reichsführer
Lindsey Graham
R-SC, Trump toady
Kevin McCarthy
House Majority Leader, career poltroon
Jim Jordan
R-OH 4th District, rodeo clown
Ron Johnson
R-WI, tin foil hat facist
Matt Gaetz
R-FL 1st District, soon to resign in disgrace
While we're at it, it is important to remember which members of Congress protected Trump from accountability for his rampage through the republic, even though the opportunity to do the right thing fell into their laps. Twice.
Many of them participated in that rampage. For the sake of the republic, vigorous oppostion must be mounted to attempts at reelection by any and all of them. Remember their names in 2022, 2024 and 2026.
Impeachment 2020 and Senate trial
Impeachment 2021
Impeachment 2021 Senate obstruction and trial
Many of these same members of Congress found time in the hours after the January 6, 2021 terrorist attack on the Capitol to continue the Republican Party's assault on voters' rights.
Arizona election obstruction
Pennsylvania election obstruction
And there are plenty in the private sector who have found it in their own interests to pour gasoline on the fire. In general, they won’t really have cared if Trump sank or swam, as either eventuality can be used to foster the hysterical hype that is their stock in trade.
